Capturing special moments and memories on film or digital media rewards both amateur and professional photographers alike. Whether you’re shooting photos of a party, a major life event or merely experimenting with your new camera, the pictures you take become permanent impressions of your memories and your handiwork.
Three main methods allow you to create prints from your digital images. If you own a printer, you can create your own prints at home on glossy or matte photo paper. If your printer only produces images in black and white, consider investing in a graphics program and save a second copy of your images in grayscale.
Depending on your printer’s capabilities, you can print images from wallet-sized photos to traditional 4x6 prints, up to an 8x10 portrait. Get a little creative and print your photos out on label paper. Voila! Now you’ve got your own stickers to use on letters to friends and family.
The second option for getting prints gives you an easier version of the first method. Before leaving home, compile a CD containing your favorite images, formatted exactly as you want them to appear in print. This is very important. You may be able to format minor elements of the photos at the store, but it is best to prepare them prior to this step.
Take your CD, or if you don’t have access to a CD burner, bring your camera’s memory card to the nearest drugstore or superstore like Wal-Mart. A small machine in the photo department (or perhaps the electronics department) will access the images on your disk and allow you to select which photos and the quantity of each that you wish to print. Conveniently, this method typically has your prints ready for pickup within the hour.
The alternative to both of these methods is the simplest way to obtain prints from your images, as long as you have a little bit of computer savvy. Sign up for an online photograph gallery service like Kodak’s EasyShare Gallery or Snapfish. By ordering your prints online, you escape from the toils of printing the images one by one at home and it also saves you a trip to the store, where you’ll stand in front of the machine for 20 minutes deciding which photos you want!
Select the most convenient method for you and prepare to get creative with your photos. You’ve done all the hard work by taking the pictures in the first place – now it’s time to enjoy them!
Fun things to do with your photos: - Create a scrapbook - Design a handmade picture frame - Compile a dozen pictures and make a calendar - Organize a collage - Send them to friends and family! |
