Comparing Canon EOS 350D and 400D (A review of the 400D)

Camera technology changes so frequently that it is often hard to keep track. One excellent model is upgraded and replaced by its newer counterpart. In this case, Canon EOS 400D / Digital Rebel XTi is one of the newest members on the Canon camera scene and is designed to replace the Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT.

The Canon EOS 400D is advertised as an upgrade and a most improved version of the 350D. Released with some controversy, the 400D has been talked about and tested extensively. Canon was somewhat secretive regarding the release of this camera and many popular review sites were ignored as the camera release passed without much fanfare.

However, what the camera lacked for in initial fanfare they are more than making up for with the camera’s performance and features. Across the board, the camera truly does live up to its claims. And when comparing it to the 350D, one can see that the 400D really is an upgrade.

But is the 400D truly superior to the 350D? Upon observing both we’ve found them to be both similar and different from each other. By observing the design, performance, features, and overall results of both, we were able to determine the pros and cons of each when compared to each other. And scrutiny has been necessary since the 350D is a highly popular, best selling model.

Here are the results of our observations.

The canon 300D does not provide the option for taking black and white photos. The weight and dimension of two of these cameras also differ. If a picture’s worth a thousand words, imagine how much a great digital camera is worth!

Comparing professional digital cameraWith this concept in mind, selecting the perfect digital camera to suit your needs has just gone from a Saturday afternoon in an electronics store to an extensive research campaign. With your primary objective in mind - to identify and price-shop so you get the most camera for your bucks – you’ll want to make a checklist of the most important features to you as a professional or a “prosumer,” that is, an amateur possessing adequate skills to require a product with some level of professional features and functioning.

Buying a new digital camera can be a lot like buying a new car, except you won’t be shelling out nearly as much money! Think about your dream car…would it have a sunroof, convertible top, T-tops? Would it be a compact and economical or large and loud with every luxury feature imaginable? Selecting and purchasing a new car – much like buying a new camera - requires time, effort and a lot of research before signing on the line.
